Simpson Desert July 23
rd – August 8th 2022
EVENT DESCRIPTIONS
An iconic double crossing of the Simpson Desert commencing from the historical town of Birdsville. From Birdsville we make our way to the top of the famous Big Red, looking out towards the 1100 sand dunes & several clay pans that lay before our destination of Mt Dare. At Mt Dare, we enjoy some of the best remote pub food, the luxury of flushing toilets & showers, before heading back to Birdsville. During the crossings, we visit several iconic desert landmarks including Dalhousie Springs, Dalhousie ruins, Purni Bore and Approdinna Attora Knolls.
BEFORE BOOKING ON THIS TRIP, PLEASE READ THE FULL EVENT DESCRIPTIONS.
This trip involves remote travel in areas without close health care assistance, mobile phone/internet coverage, amenities, 100’s kms of dirt roads and a lack of third-party assistance. Potential for livestock/animals on the roads and at our campsites. We will be in the desert for 8 days. I will be carrying both a sat phone & PLB 2way satellite communication device for emergency use. Furthermore, once we enter the desert general roadside/breakdown assistance RACQ will not come to your aid in the event of a breakdown. Mt Dare can do vehicle recovery with costing $1000’s. It is imperative your vehicle is fit for the conditions faced and you are highly advised to have an experienced 4WD mechanical specialist inspect your vehicle before the trip.
Due to the nature of the trip, we will have at least 1 face-face meet & greet. Please do your own research on what to expect, the associated risk and your suitability to attend this type of trip. A total of six cars (including myself, so there are 5 spots) will be on the trip. There is NO guarantee that any of the people on the trip have machinal experience (bush mechanic) and can repair your vehicle. Everyone on the trip and reserves will be asked to inform the trip leader of any skills relating to the trip including first aid & mechanical experience. This information will be shared with the rest of the group to allow everyone to make informed decisions. The weather and recent rain events has the potential to affect our trip. These will be monitored in the lead up and during our trip. Additional information will be shared before and at the face-to-face meeting. We will have backup plans for most unforeseeable events.
